IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

The program objectives will be implemented through the following activities:

GEB 6215:  Graduate Business Communications Applications

A three-credit course consisting of real-world simulations that develop the students' written, interpersonal, and communication skills; their ability to self- and peer-assess performance; and their ability to adapt to different cultures.

Integrated Assignments

Each M.B.A. student must submit one referenced, formatted paper and one short paper from an M.B.A. course, and be evaluated on an in-class presentation.   Each M.Ac./M.Tax student must submit the research paper and be evaluated on the in-class presentation from the Accounting Theory course (ACG 6135).

Coaching Sessions

GEB 6215 instructors can require students to attend coaching sessions or students can request such sessions.  A coaching session consists of one-on-one interaction between the student and the instructor focusing on behavioral aspects of the student's communication.  The student practices critical skills and receives feedback.

Individual Tutorial Plans

GEB 6215 instructors will provide a list of resources available to students who need tutorial help with their communications.   Instructors and students will agree on action plans for remediating substandard communication skills.

Collaboration

GEB 6215 instructors will collaborate with one another to provide a consistent program with consistent standards.  They will also collaborate with M.B.A. course professors and ACG 6135 professors to keep abreast of course assignments and to see that the communication skills are reinforced throughout the curriculum.  Finally, GEB 6215 instructors will collaborate with the business community to learn what communication skills students must possess to succeed on the job.

Service Activities

GEB 6215 instructors can be a resource to students, faculty, and the business community by serving on committees, joining FAU's Speaker's Bureau, participating in continuing education programs, and providing consulting services.
